Similar to my previous post about whether there is life on other planets, the question of whether people believe in ghosts is also a popular one. I personally wasn’t sure if I did or not. It seems like one of those “weird” enough things that considers itself paranormal. But that term itself just really means beyond normal. It’s one of those things that freaks me out, but I also find incredibly intriguing.
I don’t know how I stumbled upon the SyFy show Ghost Hunters (which airs on OLN here in Canada) but as soon as I watched it, I was hooked. What sets The Atlantic Paranormal Society (TAPS) apart from other ghost hunters is that their main goal is to DEBUNK the ghost stories that they go to investigate. Where many others will jump at the chance to call something paranormal, the TAPS team tries to find logical and reasonable explanations for the strange occurrences. And even when they do catch something odd, they go back and try to recreate it to see if it could be anything else.
What’s phenomenal is even with that debunking in mind, they STILL manage to capture some amazing evidence of ghosts. A few of the tactics they use just blows my mind with the results they get. They often use digital records to capture EVPs (Electronic Voice Phenomenons) where a voice we can’t hear with our own ears gets imprinted on the digital tape when played back. Some EERIE stuff. One of the more striking visual results is when they investigate with the “flashlight”. Where they take a flashlight (like a Mag-lite, etc.) which can be unscrewed so that it doesn’t need a strong touch to turn on. They ask questions and try to communicate with the spirits and often the spirits communicate back by turning the flashlight on and off on command! It’s SO chilling and amazing to witness. (one of many times this has happened)
For those that are interested, I found a clip on YouTube with some of the best evidence they’ve caught.. One of my favourite, and the most amazing ones, happens at the 7:42 mark on that clip.
I love the days that have a marathon on TV… but, OLN, please start showing some of the new ones from this season! I don’t mind watching reruns, but it becomes less shocking when I know what evidence is coming every episode. 100th episode at Alcatraz was probably aired 2-3 times within a 2 months…
I didn’t really have an opinion before if I thought they existed or not, but after seeing all the evidence, and reading about a lot of strange goings-ons, I do believe in ghosts now – as much as it scares the living daylights outta me.
