I don’t often write about music… I used to be much more in tune with what was out but I definitely haven’t kept up with it for the last little while. That being said, those who know me or have read this blog for a while know that I’ m a huge Gleek. (Some friends and I have tix to their concert in just over a week!) More specifically, my favourite character on Glee is Will Schuester. So when I heard Matthew Morrison was also having a solo concert tour, I had to get tickets… only to find out a few days ago that it ended up being cancelled! (Probably, unfortunately, not enough sales) And I had such good seats too (9th row!) 🙁
And as I mentioned last week, my Matt Morrison CD finally arrived! After quite a few listens to it, it’s not bad! Perhaps I was hoping for more of the “Schuester”ness to come out, but this is him branching out with a solo album. It’s weird, it’s the same guy, and somehow I guess it conveys through the music and the way he sings, but most of the time I actually prefer his Will songs on the show to his own. Don’t get me wrong, there are actually quite a few good, catchy tunes on his self-titled album. A couple notable ones that I really enjoy are “Summer Rain“, “Still Got Tonight“, “Hey” and the duet medley he does with Elton John “Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters/Rocket Man“. I could do without the Gwyneth Paltrow duet of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” though. Overall, not bad. Whether it’s Will Schuester or Matthew Morrison, I still love his voice. 🙂
Continuing on my Glee trend, I cannot get enough of Darren Criss as Blaine, and the rest of the Warblers. Love their sound & style! Honestly, the only two tracks that I’m not overly fond of that I sometimes skip over is “Candles” and “Blackbird”. (Which is strange as I’m a huge Beatles fan, but it’s more the song rather than who’s singing it that I don’t particularly care for.) Still love “Teenage Dream” and also “What Kind of Fool” (Actually, just realized that this song wasn’t ever used on the show..)
After hearing so much about her, I finally listened to Adele’s latest album, 21. Phenomenal. I have no idea why it took me this long to check her out. What a fantastic voice. My favourite tracks on this album are “Set Fire to the Rain” and “Rolling in the Deep” (but they’re all really good).
Lastly (but definitely not least), the other artist making its mark on my iPod is Bruno Mars. Fell in love with this guy after being hooked on “Nothin’ On You” and then I listened to his album and it’s just fantastic music. “Grenade” (especially the acoustic version he did at the Grammy’s!), “Marry You“, and “The Lazy Song” are among my favourites, but honestly they’re all really good.
On a separate note, remember Aqua?? (of “Barbie Girl” and “Dr. Jones” fame) They’re back with a new song! It’s actually pretty catchy! It’s called “How RU Doin?“
