Yes, I’m coining a new term… Booknesia: The ability to not have any recollection of having read a book before.
Back in 2003, what started as a bet between a former boyfriend & I, to see who could read the most books in a year, we started a chart/list to keep track of what we read. I liked the idea of logging what I read that I’ve kept it up for the past 8 years. After being more active on Goodreads.com now, I decided to go in and rate/mark-as-read the books from my handwritten list. If it wasn’t for the physical documented proof in front of my face, I honestly wouldn’t remember having read half of those books! Perhaps because I read so much, and constantly, that after a while, the ones that were just “ok” don’t stand out as much as the phenomenal ones.
I actually found myself looking them up and reading the synopsis to see if the plot or book cover would trigger anything. It’s the STRANGEST feeling to really have no memory of having ever read it before.
On a side note, for those that may have noticed – I’ve registered my blog for its own domain name! Obviously, it is still reachable via justalillost.wordpress.com but now justalillost.com works too! 🙂
