After watching Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 twice in the last 48 hours, I can honestly say this is just about the perfect ending to an immense franchise and story. Over a decade has passed from the first book to the last movie.
Okay, yes, I am a crazy Potter fan (though I wouldn’t dress up to the show… my lightning bolt necklace was about as far as I went) but I probably normally wouldn’t have bought tickets to see it twice in such short succession. My 2 friends and I had already pre-bought the tickets for this afternoon, but then, because through work we do business with the movie theatres (for promotions), they were having an advanced screening on Thursday at 7pm (BEFORE the “midnight showing”!) so how could I pass that up?? It was fantastic because it was all business people at that 7pm show. No kids, no noise, it was pure silence (except for the occasional sniffling)
This final installment was phenomenal. It really was. Sure, some people say they skipped this and missed that, but overall, it was fantastic. Really really well done. I had chills from the moment the opening scene came on screen. Neville really shone through in this movie. Some great lines and great moments with him. Really, my only slight “gripe” (and it’s not even really a gripe) And maybe spoiler alert? (but, really, I’d think you’d figure it out) but when Voldemort’s finally defeated, nobody seems to care! They’re all just hanging out and chatting in groups, having some tea.. nobody’s CHEERING that he’s finally dead! Really? The Dark Lord. THE big bad guy is gone and nobody looks like they could give a rat’s ass. On the other hand, two of my favourite scenes was Snape’s memories, and when McGonagall fortifies the castle with the stone knights. Brilliant.
