Looks like Hurricane Irene ended up downgrading to a tropical storm as it came through the NYC area. NJ seemed to get quite a bit of flooding, but Manhattan & Brooklyn had far less damage. The most we saw around us was downed tree branches, thankfully. We spent most of Saturday & Sunday holed up indoors with some snacks, wine and bad movies on basic cable! (Watched The Ringer, The House Bunny, Last Holiday and I Think I Love My Wife – a horrible & weird Chris Rock movie)
Yesterday, my friend and I were so excited to finally get out – even though people still advised to be careful because of the high winds from the tropical storm. It finally stopped raining though, and our cabin fever was setting in so we headed out to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge and into Lower Manhattan. Walked around a bit where the 9/11 Memorial will be, circled around a bit but nothing was really open so we headed back over the Brooklyn Bridge once it started getting drizzly and the wind started picking up. We thought to swing by Brooklyn Heights Promenade again, to see the gorgeous NYC skyline but as we approached, because of the proximity to the water, we pretty much nearly blew away! It was SO ridiculously windy… unbelievable. I’m already a skinny gal, and the wind was having no trouble moving me along. Ridiculous!!
Finally! After 2 whole days of rainy, stormy weather, it’s finally gorgeous out again! Unfortunately, luck have it, I woke up with the worst migraine ever. Popped some Advil, got some Starbucks and was good (well, better) to go! We walked a LOT today. Well, everytime I come to NYC, I know to bring comfy walking shoes because we always walk a lot. Today, we started in Central Park and explored that for a while, then met up with Jenn, who let us know we were going to head to Max Brenner (yummy chocolate place) for dinner w/other friends. With some stops for lunch (at Sarabeth’s), shopping (at Henri Bendel‘s) and photo ops (at the Flat Iron building), we walked all the way down 5th avenue from Central Park to 14th! Phew. So tired. Dinner was decadently delicious! Stopped by The Strand bookstore and picked up several more books – which I’ll share with everyone on my IMM this coming week!
Tomorrow, off to see Daniel Radcliffe in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying AND my review post for the Penguin blog tour for Richelle Mead’s Bloodlines!
