Top Ten Books That Broke Your Heart A Little

(this year we’re going ANTI-Valentine’s Day :P )

This was a bit of a tough one to finish.. I had a few definites in mind, but struggled with the last few! Some of these broke my heart, but not necessarily for anti-valentine’s/romantic reasons…

  1. One Day by David Nicholls <– Oh, for SURE.
  2. The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks <– Though, I’d say The Wedding (it’s sequel) is equally heartbreaking.
  3. The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger <– Granted only vaguely remembering it, since realizing yesterday this book came out in 2003!! Didn’t feel like it’s been almost 9 years since I read it. Need to re-read.
  4. Wicked by Gregory Maguire <– <3
  5. Atonement by Ian McEwan
  6. Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates
  7. Still Alice by Lisa Genova
  8. Push by Sapphire
  9. Room by Emma Donoghue
  10. The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold

What made your Top 10 list this week? Share your link and I’ll check it out too!

(Oh, and Happy Valentine’s Day to all my fellow lovers of books!)

  1. Excuse the outburst but…OMG, ONE DAY. I can’t believe I left that off my list because, YES, that book definitely broke my heart. I finished it around 3AM one day and I was there in my bed, crying my eyes out. Great list!

  2. I almost put The Lovely Bones on my list. It’s such an amazing novel.

  3. With you on The Time Traveler’s Wife. And I forgot how sad The Lovely Bones is. I was in pieces when I read that.

  4. I think all of Nicholas Sparks’ books are meant to make you cry hehe. Here’s my Top Ten

  5. Oh God, The Time Traveller’s Wife broke my heart into so many little pieces. I refuse to see the film because I’m sure it will be just as painful!

I have One Day on my TBR but I’m kind of anxious about reading it because I’ve heard it’s a heart-breaker.

*sigh* Why do I have to get so emotionally invested in books!?

  6. Those are all great picks. I just did my first Top Ten. I am so bad at choosing top lists for anything. I realize that my list is pretty lame now. lol!

  9. I won’t read Nicholas Sparks any longer! Though, I did like the combination of The Notebook, followed up by The Wedding… but still… I don’t want to be intentionally saddened. Great list!

  10. The Wedding was soo good. So was The Notebook, of course. I agree on those, and One Day. Room was absolutely heartbreaking.

  11. I think I am the only person in the whole world who wasn’t into “Room” … although I definitely see how everyone has this on their lists this week.

Come see my Top Ten / Teaser Tuesday!

  12. I have The Notebook on my list but also The Wedding a book that was very very sad and touching.
