While I was out with Wendy (A Cupcake and a Latte), Sara (Geek Girl’s Book Blog) and Christa (Hooked on Books), we were waiting for the light to change and happened to be outside a store on Spadina with loud dance music blaring out of it – and some silly looking mannequins. Talk about the movie Mannequin (starring Sex & the City‘s Kim Cattrall) led to us reminiscing about one of our favourite childhood shows: Today’s Special. We spent one evening sharing Youtube links of the intros to these shows back and forth, and it inspired me to compile a Top 10 list to share this moment of nostalgia with all of you!
On a side note:
does anyone remember an 80’s cartoon where you had to “keep your eye out” for some little character who’s hidden somewhere within the episode? And then at the end, he’s like “Did you find me? I was [insert clip] here!” It’s driving me nuts because I can’t remember where that’s from! I wanna say She-Ra… or He-Man, but I’m not sure… anyone remember? Oh yay!! Sara found it.. It WAS She-Ra! This guy –> Loo-Kee
Some of you may not know of these, perhaps being before your time or it was Canadian programming.. but nonetheless, it’s some good ol’ 80’s/90’s childhood memories! You’ll also notice that I don’t have the typical “girly” shows.. lol.. I honestly can’t say I’ve watched an episode of My Little Pony (knowingly).. I was all about the “boys” shows! 😛
3. Today’s Special
I can still recite/sing along to this whole thing!
4. Join In!
5. Camp Caribou
6. Mr. Dressup
7. Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?
DO IT ROCKAPELLA!
9. Muppet Babies
10. Alvin and the Chipmunks
(I always loved the episodes with the Chippettes!)
Notable mentions: (Not my Top 10 fave, but ones I also enjoyed)
Shining Time Station (It had Ringo Starr!!), She-Ra, Bookmice, Reading Rainbow, The Elephant Show, Take Part, Under the Umbrella Tree
Honestly, the shows from my childhood are such classics! They really don’t make ’em like that anymore.. back then, everything’s just so much more… wholesome! 😀
