First off, spoiler alert. I discuss who wins the title of Celebrity Apprentice in this post so if you don’t want to know, don’t keep reading!
I hadn’t seen any seasons of Celebrity Apprentice until this year, and mostly because Clay Aiken was on this season. Being a fan of his from almost 10 years ago when he was on Idol, I was excited to see him back on TV again. Who knew I would get so completely hooked into the show. Being a fan of the guy’s team from the beginning, I loved the friendship that developed between Clay and Arsenio. I equated their bromance to that of Community‘s Troy & Abed. Loved it. So the fact that they were the final two was absolutely perfect. Arsenio said it best, that it’s easier to be competing against someone you don’t like… it’s hard when it’s a good friend.
The women’s team all season drove me crazy. Entertainment Weekly said it best in one of their recap posts… that it was a very smart move to keep Aubrey to the very end… She wasn’t going to be one of the contenders of the final 2, but her antics drove up ratings so Trump left it to the last episode before the finals to fire her. And she was gone for about a minute and a half. Speaking of Aubrey, who were those obnoxious people in the audience of the live finale constantly yelling for her to be apprentice?? And why had nobody ejected them from the room?? She’s not one of the final 2! Give it up already! At least Lisa redeemed herself in the end with her kind donation to Clay’s charity. Aubrey was classless till the very end. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Arsenio said she still held a grudge against him till the end, going over to hug Clay and not congratulating Arsenio. At the end of the day, it’s a game for charity, not a venue to feed your narcissism.
As for the winner…. I was genuinely shocked that Trump picked Arsenio over Clay. I was rooting for Clay, not only because I am a fan of his, but I genuinely thought he did a really great job throughout the whole season. Don’t get me wrong, Arsenio was great too (even with his blow-up with Aubrey – as warranted as it might have been). But for the final task, Arsenio’s PSA video was definitely more engaging, but the party and actual “variety” of the show should have gone to Clay’s team. Not to downplay either of the charities, but I wonder if Trump kept that in mind when making his decision. Because both guys were great, maybe he figured that the Magic Johnson Foundation could have benefited more from $250k than the National Inclusion Project; especially since Clay already raked in over $300k from the charity event. Either way though, there aren’t any losers. They’ve both raised significant awareness to both their charities, and I’m sure both foundations will benefit from this exposure. Like George Takei said, being fired from the show allowed his charity to be recognized and therefore garner donations.
Who were you rooting for this whole season?
