While checking out book haul posts yesterday, I came across a post about favourite fictional moms on Natalie’s blog Browsing Bookshelves that inspired me to think of my own favourite ones for this Mother’s Day! Like Natalie, it ended up being a lot harder to think of than I thought it would be. (And completely unintentional that I picked the same photo for Molly that she did – but it’s such a perfect “mom” face!) I’ve included mixed medias – so favourite moms in book, TV, and movie formats.
1. Molly Weasley / Harry Potter series
Hands down, for sure. Mrs Weasley was the one and only mother that I first thought of. Brave, feisty and able to manage a large bustling household while protecting her family by fighting off the baddies!
2. Mrs. Prior / Divergent
Since I just finished this book the other day, Beatrice’s mom was also fresh in my mind. Love the understated character.
3. Lucille Bluth / Arrested Development
The penultimate ridiculous mother – it’s no wonder her kids turned out so zany. It’s amazing that Michael (Jason Bateman) turned out as “relatively” normal as he did.
4. Aibileen / The Help
While we don’t actually get to meet her son, she is an inspiring and caring mother figure to all the children she raised.
