A little bit quieter of a week.. I’m trying to not request/buy/etc too many books before I can catch up on all the ones I need/want to read! It’s getting out of hand!
I’ve been seeing a few posts lately about book haul memes and how some see it as “braggy”.. to be honest, that caught me by surprise because I never saw them in this way. I’ve discovered so many new reads to check out from the weekly book haul posts and for the record, I certainly post in that same respect.. to share what I’ve received/discovered that week and not intended to show off. I’ve definitely spent more money buying books that I’ve discovered from book haul posts than I did before blogging! (And that was already a lot!)
I noticed that a lot of other people do “Clock Rewinders” to showcase what was posted in the past week.. also an interesting meme and one that I seemingly have been doing since I link back to my past week’s posts anyway, just not officially calling it that!
So on that note.. a few things to share with you this week!
- Swoon-Worth Sundays last week featured Shane West
- My review of Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
- The new book by Chris Colfer is what I’m Waiting on this past Wednesday
- A new Just a Lil’ Lost webcomic
- The mystery of my missing belt solved by a Random Act of Kindness!
- and….. please check out the girl-geek blog Paper Droids! (Of which I am now one of the new entertainment contributors!)
- I’m only 14 away from 300 likes on my Facebook page! I did a giveaway when I hit 200, so I think I’m going to start planning for the 300th one when I get there
For Review

Etiquette & Espionage by Gail Carriger <– ARC for read & review from publisher. Admittedly it was the cover that first drew me in. What a STRIKING visual. The story sounds really interesting too!
The Boy: A Novel by Lara Santoro <– ARC for read & review from publisher. It sounds pretty good.. the premise reminds me of a darker version of a bit of a book I read a while ago called The Younger Man.
Zoo by James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge <– eARC for read & review from publisher. I haven’t actually read any books by Patterson, and the Eiffel Tower is what caught my eye but OMG this book sounds fantastic! Terrorists that are animals?? Crazy premise!
The Diviners by Libba Bray <– eARC for read & review from publisher. I read A Great and Terrible Beauty when it first came out and didn’t care for it.. but I’ve heard such great things about both that book and this author, so I’m excited to give this book with an interesting story a shot!
Purchased
While I didn’t buy any books this week, I DID purchase my 4-day pass for next weekend’s Fan Expo!! (It’s like “Comic-Con North”
) Also picked up my “ticket” for the photo-op section with the one and only Gillian Anderson! <3 X-Files so I’m really excited about meeting her. I also wanted to get the photo-op ticket for Sam Trammell (Sam from True Blood) but for some reason it wasn’t updated on their online pre-buy site so I’m going to have to chance it and get it the day of… He’s the one person I FOR SURE want to see.. was bummed last year that I missed Fan Expo (well, because I was going to NYC – to be fair) but he ended up cancelling anyway, so this is my second chance!
(Last year also had Tom Felton!! GAH.)
Other guests that are going to be there that I’m excited to see include Nelsan Ellis (Lafayette from True Blood), James Marsters (Spike from Buffy/Angel) and a bunch of others! Be sure to look out for my recaps next week of the weekend
What did you get this week? Leave your link and I’ll be sure to check it out too!
Thanks for stopping by!

Very nice haul. Some of these are brand spanking new to me. Come visit my STS as well.

FanExpo sounds exciting. I wish I could go to one. You get to meet Sam Trammell from True Blood. Lucky.
I hope you enjoy Cross. James Patterson is a great writter. I have read some of his books and they are really good. Have a great weekend.

Wait… what? You’ve NEVER read a James Patterson book??! I LOVE James Patterson. They’re quick reads, too, cause the chapters are, like, 2 pages. LOL.
Great haul! Have a good time at Fan Expo! I see that Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes are gonna be there. I LOVE them and would love to go…

OOOH, I’ve book looking at Etiquette and Espionage! Can’t wait to hear what you think about that. Also, I never cared from The Great and Terrible Beauty books either. I wasn’t going to check out The Diviners, but maybe I’ll wait to see what you think! I thought I was the only one who didn’t like Gemma Doyle.

Great review books!! I loved Etiquette and Espionage! And The Diviners looks AWESOME! And Fan Expo looks pretty cool.
Enjoy your pic with Gillian Anderson!
As far as the “braggy”-ness of mailbox posts, that’s why I switched to Clock Rewinders. Actually, what I found was that I wanted to get more books for my mailbox posts (whether they’re review or purchased) so that they looked better. Then, I tend to IGNORE all these books! I hope that I can now just focus on READING instead of accumulating review books. It’s more fun that way — to me, at least.

I think I started requesting more due to low review books and then I got slammed with so many. LOL oops. The Diviners look soo good doesn’t it? I actually enjoyed Beauty Queens. Not at first, but I gave it a try again and found it hilarious.
About people thinking book hauls are for bragging..I just have to say they’re all haters. I completely agree with you. I find SO MANY books this way. My to-read list grows exponentially whenever the weekend arrives due to all the books that I see. People need to calm down.
BTW, pretty new theme! It’s so feminine

This is what I got this week
That’s pretty strange for me to hear others think of these posts as ‘braggy’ since I’ve never thought of them that way either. These types of posts are probably my favorite and I just like seeing what others got I guess.
And great haul this week! Etiquette and Espionage definitley has a gorgeous cover and I’m so excited to read it!

Looks like you’ll have so much fun! Yeah, animal terrorists sounds intriguing
As for the critics…I don’t know, most of the books I read and review are purchased or borrowed (I get very few ARCs), so why would someone mind me showing off the books that I’m excited to read? Jealousy?
Enjoy your new books!
