Swoon-Worthy Sundays: The Men of Suits… in Suits

This week, I thought I’d feature some handsome men in suits from a show that I have just recently gotten into (as recently as…. yesterday!) I had heard so many good things about the Toronto-shot, NYC-based show Suits that I finally decided to watch it, and I am completely hooked, flying through season 1 in one day.

Set at a Manhattan law firm, the young ingenue Mike Ross is a college drop out and finds himself at the right place at the wrong-turned-right time. High profile lawyer Harvey Specter takes a chance on hiring him and mentors the boy wonder who has an impeccable knack for reading, learning and remembering details. The only catch is that the firm only hires Harvard grads, of which Mike is not, and the two must keep their secret from being found out by the other lawyers in the firm.

Harvey, played by Gabriel Macht, exudes confidence. A friend of mine says that he’s her Christian Grey and even though I haven’t read Fifty Shades, I can see where she’s coming from. He’s calm, he’s cool and he’s oh-so-suave at charming people whether it’s his colleagues or his clients. Harvey Specter reminds me of the lawyer version of Hugh Laurie’s Dr. House. His mind is always working ten steps ahead of everyone and finds loopholes and ways to solve a case with the inspiration of something that he encounters.

Toronto native Patrick J. Adams plays Mike and carries himself with a bit of a Barney Stinson look to him but with less womanizing, and more genuine sincerity.  His character is smart, eager to succeed and sarcastic to boot. Love it. Love him. Can’t say much for some of his choice in friends however (hate that guy Trevor!)

Individually, they’re both fantastic characters on this show but where they really shine is as a duo. Their easy banter and good-natured ribbing of each other plays fantastically to their onscreen chemistry, often times making me laugh at the image of Batman & Robin as a comparison.

A few discussion questions:

  • Have you seen the show Suits?
  • Who is your fave: Harvey or Mike?
  • Do you prefer guys in suits or do you like a more rugged look?

  2. I’ve been watching Suits since the first episode and I love it. Harvey is such a bastard on the outside, but he has a little sliver of goodness hiding way down deep. And Mike is all goodness, but trying hard to become a bastard like Harvey. I love a rugged looking man, but you have to admit those suits are something to look at!

  3. I’ve seen previews for this show, but had no idea what it was about — it looks good! Might have to check it out!

  4. I haven’t watched Suits yet, but it’s been on my list of shows to check out for a little while now. I always seem to be getting in mixed up with White Collar. I love that it’s shot in Toronto, maybe I should try getting into it so I have a reason to try and track down the set!

  5. I will be honest, I don’t think I have heard of it. I don’t really watch a whole lot of TV with the exception of a few shows, so I don’t tend to pay attention to what else is on. I don’t need to add anymore to my list lol!!
