Recap: The Magic of Saida book launch party

About a month ago, I received an invitation from Doubleday Canada/Random House to attend the book launch party of M.G. Vassanji’s The Magic of Saida (pronounced sigh-ee-dah). After meeting up with Andrea (Cozy Up With a Good Read) first, we headed up to the beautiful Arcadian Loft in downtown Toronto. Being always the punctual ones, we were one of the first to arrive (along with Jennifer, a familiar face at book events that we finally had a chance to chat with) Christa (Hooked on Books) soon joined us and we helped ourselves to a glass of wine and some delicious hor d’oeuvres from Oliver & Bonacini while chatting the evening away about books.

About an hour into the event, in front of a slideshow of his photos, Mr. Vassanji spoke very briefly about him & his book before handing the mic back over and everyone went back to mingling. While there wasn’t an official book signing segment, it seemed quite casual for people to approach him to get their copies of The Magic of Saida signed.

Having been a blogger for just under 2 years now, I’ve had the amazing opportunity to attend such a variety of events. This launch party was definitely one of the more laid-back and chill ones. While it was a more casual event, by no means does that mean people weren’t dressed to the nines! After enjoying the fantastic company for about 2 hours, we decided to call it a night.

Thank you to Random House/Doubleday Canada and M.G. Vassanji for a lovely evening!
