The big trend as of late are nail designs. While back in high school, I used to adorn my long slender fingers with crazy nail colours, I grew out of that phase when I got to university. At the time, having turquoise or purple nails just didn’t fit my style anymore. Or at least that’s what I thought. Over the last year, however, that love of nail polish has returned, with the help of make-up brands saturating the market with not only any colour you could dream of but branching out to more innovative and creative methods – turning nail polish into nail ART.
I swung by the newly renovated Sephora at Toronto’s Eaton Centre this past week and was in awe at the new location. Probably more than twice the size of the old store, the feature that caught my attention front & centre when you walked in was the nail bar. 6 stations with themes and designs on each one, with a quick tutorial video playing on each station, allowing you to try out the designs on your nails right there on the padded mat.
My favourite section was the Blogger Kits, sets that were curated by nail bloggers. Not only were the designs incredibly artsy and unique, but it introduced me to a new brand called The New Black. Their kits didn’t stop at just the blogger-curated ones, but also features an array of Ombré ones (5 gradient shades of a certain colour) along with many other sets.
I really wanted to pick up the Shibuya Blogger one, but they were unfortunately (yet not surprisingly) sold out of them. It did allow me to discover their typography collection, of which – being the book lover – I couldn’t resist buying the Times Late Edition one! To be honest, there isn’t a set from their assortment that I don’t want! From Rock ‘n Roll Royalty with tiny jewel adornments to changing up the well-known French manicure with their own Pardon My French combinations, The New Black has taken the nail polish trend to the nth degree for me with the type of stand-out branding and mod vibe that suits my style & catches my eye.
Oh, and the videos that are shown at the Sephora nail bar? You can watch the tutorials on The New Black‘s website too!
Yep, I’m swoon-worthily obsessed at the moment. 😀
