On a cold and soon-to-be-snowy Thursday evening in January, I had the pleasure of attending the first Penguin Blogger event with Adrienne Kress, author of The Friday Society, and Falling Kingdoms‘ author Morgan Rhodes at the Penguin office. Upon arriving, we were greeted with an already buzzing conference room with beautiful cupcakes along the back wall. After taking a seat at the table and greeting all the familiar faces around the room, the Penguin gals walked in with some yummy pizza!

Once everyone was full from the pizza party, Dana (I believe was her name) from Faze Magazine began the casual interview chat with the two lovely authors. We learned about each author’s writing process (They both have outlines but Morgan knows what’s going on in each chapter where Adrienne likes to see where the story will take her as she writes). Among the many laughs and jokes (and there were many!), we learned that the inspiration for The Friday Society actually came from watching the teaser trailer for Suckerpunch and the only part that Morgan doesn’t like about her book being called the “Game of Thrones for teens” are the readers who are angry that it is nothing like Game of Thrones.
When asked about their characters, Adrienne strongly proclaimed that her three Friday Society girls will never ever ever have a romantic relationship with their bosses. It’s not where the story is supposed to go and that’s not how she wants to portray her “girl power” female leads. In regards to killing off characters, while Adrienne feels it’s a pragmatic choice, Morgan is quite liking killing people off in her stories!
After about an hour of questions where the two authors would run off on tangents, or the sporadic questions from the bloggers, it was time to wrap it up. We then had the opportunity to pick up a couple ARCs of upcoming releases and get our books signed by Morgan and Adrienne. I wish there was perhaps more conversation among the bloggers as opposed to us just sitting there and listening, even though Morgan & Adrienne did involve “the audience” at times. I think everyone became really shy & reluctant to speak up since there was an interviewer with predetermined questions.

What a lovely evening in great company on an otherwise extremely-chilly night. HUGE thank you to Faze Magazine, Morgan Rhodes, Adrienne Kress and Penguin Canada for a successful blogger evening!

SO true..I don’t think most of us like talking in the spotlight..I also wish there was more direction and structure because the topics kept going all over the place.
I MUST TELL YOU MY GHOST STORY!
