Those of you who follow me on Twitter or Instagram will have seen the exciting news I posted a picture of this past week. Immediately, I got numerous people asking me when the date was… within minutes of me posting about it on my Facebook! Little would I realize that that insanity would be just the tip of the iceberg on how overwhelming this whole ordeal would be. I realized that all the ideas I had of what I wanted at my hypothetical wedding when I was growing up was just mere ideas and fantasy. Now I actually had to make actual decisions of what I actually wanted. I don’t even know what kind of dress I want!
Thankfully my sister had paved the road already with her wedding last May, so my first thought was to go to her & my brother in law with where to even begin. They gave us great advice, questions to ask, and suggestion to pick up a couple key magazines that she found helpful. Wedding Essentials (Ontario edition) and while at the store, I saw the Toronto Life 2013 Weddings issue. While helpful as it is with ideas and advice, why I chose “wedding planning” for this week’s Swoon-Worthy Sunday feature was the entire process of it all. Yes, it can be immensely stressful and it’s been less than a week and I’m already overwhelmed, but the eye candy of ALL these beautiful and creative things is definitely making me swoon!
Forget the countless number of magazine publications, just go online and you’ll find endless streams of ideas and beautiful photos. Just perusing through websites of potential venues has me wishing I won the lottery so I could have an event at each of these amazing spaces. This isn’t even counting the infinite scrolling that’s possible on sites like Pinterest or Lover.ly! Oh such lovely distractions those sites are. I don’t know how anyone can decide on anything when there are so many sources of inspiration at your fingertips now!
I do have my ideas starting to form now though, and we’re actually on the cusp of already picking out our venue (we loved the first place we went to see!). While our potential date is not for another 1.5 years, many married friends have come to tell me that 1) Start early. You don’t want to be stressed out so close to your wedding date, and 2) Enjoy it. Given that we only just got engaged last Monday, we’re making pretty decent progress already. I definitely don’t want to rush it… I want to enjoy the process and just bask in this exciting time and take in all the lovely things to see and try in this whole planning process. What helps to prolong this exciting feeling is that I have so many great friends around me who are just as excited about this wedding as we are. (I have heard “OMG FINALLY!!!” from so many friends & family this week…
)
Overwhelming? Sure. Exciting? Absolutely. Swoon-Worthy? You betcha.

Wedding planning is exciting. It can get overwhelming, but just try to remember that it’s all for your special day and it’s supposed to be fun and memorable. Don’t cave to the stress of it all.

CONGRATS! So excited for you, Michele! We also booked our venue very early, and had 1.5 years to plan – it goes by quickly, so enjoy it. Let me know if you want any ideas or tips – I’m pinning madly as well…=p

I totally agree with the advice that you’ve been given thus far — it’s a lot of work, and good to do things in small doses early, rather than all at the last minute! And enjoy every moment … I loved all of the planning that we did, from dress shopping to venue hunting to all of the crafty things. And if you are at all interested in incorporating bookish ideas into your wedding, feel free to send me an e-mail! We had a storybook-esque, “Once Upon a Time” kind of theme to our wedding, since we’re both avid readers, and met in a bookstore. It all turned out really well, and we had lots of compliments on the uniqueness of what we’d put together, as well as it all being so totally us. And biggest congratulations to you! You’re off on such a wonderful and amazing adventure!! XOXOXO
