Met up with Sara (Geek Girl’s Book Blog) and Christa (More Than Just Magic) to head to Megan Crewe’s book launch party for the sequel to last year’s The Way We Fall. On our way to No One Writes to the Colonel (love that name!) in downtown Toronto, we realized that it had already been a year since Megan’s book launch last year at Bakka Phoenix! For us, it felt like the time flew by but Megan attested that at times it’s felt like quite a long time for her! We were a bit early so got our drinks and found a cozy couch area (before seeing the actual seating area in the back for the book launch).
Moseyed on over and said hello to Megan before grabbing a seat at one of the tables. Shortly after we spotted Chandra (@IndigoTeenBlog) who took a seat with us. It was so awesome to see so many local authors come out and support Megan (and each other!), including Lesley Livingston (Once Every Never, etc.), Adrienne Kress (The Friday Society), Maureen McGowan (Deviants) and Debbie Ohi (I’m Bored)!
After a bit of mingling time where Megan signed a few books, she got up on the stage and said a few words about The Lives We Lost. It was the first time she’d had to write a sequel, and the first book that was already sold for publication before she had even written it yet. She then read a small passage from the book (you can watch the clip, below!) and handed it over to a gentleman from the Highlands Wilderness Training Institute.
He spoke a bit about how to be prepared both in the wilderness and in the city, in case of any emergency that we’d lose power or experience similar situations like in Megan’s book. We learned how to make a fire from hand sanitizer, a beer can and a flint. It was really quite interesting, and handy knowledge to have in mind!
Sitting near the table that Megan was signing at, we were right at the front of the line. Got our books signed and hung out to chat with everyone for a bit. Christa introduced us to Melissa (YA Bookshelf) who had just arrived a few moments earlier and we enjoyed a lovely evening in a fantastic (newly-discovered) bar with great ambiance, great food and great company.
Thank you to Disney-Hyperion/Hachette Book Group and Megan Crewe for the great evening!
