How perfectly romantic! Today, I welcome Siobhan @ Conversations of a Reading Addict to Paris Month to share her story of how she got engaged in this romantic city!
From Siobhan’s blog bio:
I am a 23 year old who loves everything to do with books and aspires to make a career out of it 🙂 If you love books as much as I do, let me know! I always love talking to book people, they are the best!
Paris has always had a special place in my heart. Every since I read Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly I knew I wanted to go there and see all the rich history, architecture and French culture.
Before I get into the OTHER reason why Paris means so much to me, I want to tell you how my fiancée and I met. It’s a funny story really, I went to see a friend, and he happened to be there, helping fix her Internet. We never talked, and he didn’t even notice me. But the seed was planted for us to meet. A couple of weeks later we were set up by said friend on Facebook. I was, ironically, sitting by myself in a movie theatre watching New Moon for the second time, and he was sitting home alone watching a movie too. From there we talked over MSN and it took about 2 weeks until he asked me out.
He picked me up that night in his van, we thought it was funny that we had never never actually met, but here I was getting into his van. We went and saw Armored, most if which I don’t remember. And I guess you could say the rest was history.
Last year I was set to graduate from university and I was really excited. I had an internship upcoming and the future seemed bright and exciting. Little did I know what was coming. My fiancée surprised me one night, telling me he was taking me to Paris after I graduate. He payed for the flight, hotel everything. I was so surprised and extremely excited.
We arrived on May 1st, did all the usual touristy things, and stood in line for the Eiffel tour for 4 hours. But it was he second day that forever changed my life. We had just spent the day at Disney land, in the pouring rain, and I was exhausted. We got back to the hotel room late, and my fiancée wanted me to go onto our balcony to see the Eiffel tour light up at 10. It was during that 2 minutes that he went inside, then came back and went down on one knee and proposed. I think I said the words “holy shit” a lot. I was so surprised and very excited.
So as you can see, Paris is not only an amazing historical city for me, but it is also where I became betrothed to the love of my life. It will forever be my favourite city on the entire planet.
