For those unfamiliar to my “One-Liners” feature, I give short snippets of my thoughts on each episode of shows that I’m finally binge-watching. Right now, I’ve got Downton and Supernatural on the go but Sherlock is on the horizon, as I’m halfway through that one.
Well, it’s been quite a few months since I last finished season one, and got around to finishing season 2. Between flipping through an old issue of Entertainment Weekly magazine and clicking around on the in-flight TV shows on a flight in March, I completely spoiled a major plot point for myself. I hate spoilers, so having this be self-inflicted makes it more annoying! That being said, a SPOILER WARNING for season 2 if you have not seen it yet!
Uh oh.. that sort of goodbye between Mary and Matthew at the train is some ominous foreshadowing on his fate… Bates & Anna.. adorable!! Ethyl’s hilarious with her awkwardness… Love Sybil learning cooking and love that her mother is so happy about it. .. Bates’ wife looks so familiar….. is that Katherine from The Tudors??
I watched this episode. I re-read the synopsis and still nothing really stood out for me here to have made a comment on it as I was watching.
Oh goodness. Thomas is back and (sort of) in charge?
WHAT is with the bitchiness Cora?? She’s been generally fairly neutral to then throw that patronizing tone with Mrs Crawley.. And you’d think that after what O’Brien had done and gone through with Cora last season that she’d be a bit more remorseful to jump right back in with Thomas and his evil shenanigans.
It’s been a big gap since watching the last episode to getting to this one. In that time, I’ve had the previously aforementioned major plot points spoiled for me and upon watching this episode, I thought this was the very episode where it happens.
How convenient this “Patrick” with “amnesia”… who suddenly remembers everything about who he was after an explosion. Sounds so… soap opera drama. Hah.. “the trick of business is to mind your own.” Well said. What! Carson’s actually leaving Downton!?
Holy.. Cora has become heartless. That withering look of hers is pathetic. Wow, this episode is full of shockers. Lord Grantham kisses the maid?? Matthew suddenly can stand?! And I LOVE Sybil + Branson!! Love it!!
Ommmmg Matthew and Mary.. okay, he just got the use of his legs back and he’s dancing?? C’mon. And how hypocritical. Lord Grantham is so angry at Sybil for wanting to be with Branson “the help” when he’s making out with the maid? I guess this flu isn’t contagious. Everyone seems to be either getting it or surrounding the bedside of those who have it. Jeez, Mr. Bates can’t catch a break!
Christmas At Downton Abbey
Ugh, that Sir Richard man is wretched. Thank GOODNESS Lord Grantham has freed Mary from this horrible man.
“He doesn’t trust me, does he? Because of the stealing?” Oh Thomas. You’re one smart cookie.
Oh. So the spinal injury not only mircaulously cured itself but Matthew’s now rolling around and fighting?? Miracle, indeed!
Special: Behind the Drama
I loved this behind the scenes look at the show! Everyone looks so different out of costume, especially the serving staff. Mrs Patmore’s hair is all styled and straightened!
So. What have we learned from Downton this season? If you have feelings for someone outside your marriage, wait till they die and your problems are solved. Eesh.
I know what’s coming for season 3 at some point.. the very thing that I spoiled for myself, so I’m procrastinating and dreading watching this next season…
