Being a novice to cooking, and especially cooking healthy, I was excited to check out the book launch of Sarah Britton’s new cookbook My New Roots a few weeks ago. Invited by Random House, I headed to Good Egg in Kensington Market, an eclectic store in downtown Toronto with an assortment of cookbooks, crafty DIY books and other knick-knacks to look at while perusing the store.
Promptly at noon, Sarah came out to a large waiting crowd of fans as she welcomed & thanked everyone for coming. With a bit of tight-squeezed maneurvering, she got settled at the table near the front of the store and the line-up for signing snaked to the back. As we hung out, and tried to stay out of the way from the consistently large crowd, we suddenly spotted some familiar faces come into the store.
Apparently Sarah Britton is friends with Patrick J. Adams (Suits) and Troian Bellisario (Pretty Little Liars), who showed up to support their friend at her book launch! They went and purchased copies of My New Roots and stood in line with everyone else, waiting for their turn to get their cookbook signed. As they were leaving, Christine (Padfoot’s Library) and I decided to go and say hello after seeing someone else approach them as well. It was such a pleasure to chat with Troian briefly outside the store, and thanks to Nikki for taking the photo for us! On our way back in, I stepped over to Patrick to shake his hand and say hello again, having met him a few years back at his Sea/Land art show.
We stayed for a bit longer, enjoyed some treats prepared by Sarah from her book, and soon headed out to enjoy the rest of a gorgeous (and surreal) Sunday! I’ve started trying some of the recipes already so look out for a future post of Lost in the Kitchen where I share some of my attempts at making the delcious food!
