Premiering tonight, for three nights, the 6-hour miniseries adaptation of Arthur C. Clarke’s 1953 science fiction novel will air on Showcase December 14, 15 & 16 starting at 8pm EST. Childhood’s End is about a peaceful invasion of Earth by the Overlords, where peace and prosperity are the result. While many are marveling in the decades of positive outcomes, there are some who are wary and suspicious. The people of Earth soon find out what the cost is for such an idyllic Utopian world.
The sci-fi mini series stars Mike Vogel (Under the Dome), Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), Daisy Betts (The Last Resort), Yael Stone (Orange Is the New Black), Julian McMahon (Nip/Tuck), Osy Ikhile (The Fear), and Colm Meaney (Star Trek: TNG). Under the direction of Nick Hurran (Sherlock, Doctor Who), Childhood’s End is sure to be an exciting and compelling 6-hour ride.
Described by the Los Angeles Times as “frightening logical, believable and grimly prophetic”, this classic novel by Clarke is one I, admittedly, am not too familiar with. (Many may be more familiar with Clarke from his novel 2001: A Space Odyssey) However, after watching the trailer (below), I am so psyched for the mini series this week. While it’s science fiction, I feel that it can have a very timely and poignant message.
