I’ve always enjoyed being artsy, having studied music for numerous years in my childhood and dabbling in various forms of DIY crafts throughout the years. When some friends and I attended several craft shows near the end of 2015, it inspired me, and us, to be more crafty in the new year.
So along with all the book chats that will happen on here, I will also be documenting our year of being artsy and crafty! We’re only just over one week into January and already have a number of things to do on the list… In this month alone!
So starting with the design change of Just a Lil’ Lost, while I loved my previous one immensely for several years, I felt it time to streamline the look a bit. I tend to get very impulsive and focused when I think of something I want to do, so on Saturday afternoon, I sat down to find a design that I liked, customizing and finessing all the aspects to it. There’s still some fine-tuning to be done, but overall I’m really pleased with the new look.
All this site redesigning happened after getting home and being inspired & motivated from hanging out with my friend (and crafty partner in crime) Flo at Michaels where we purchased some art supplies and signed up for one of their many classes. Saturday was their open house, which offered classes at 50% off if you signed up that day. The craft store offers workshops with a lot of variety so there’s something for everyone, from jewelry making to drawing to cake decorating. The course fees are extremely reasonable, anywhere from free to about $25 (supplies not included, but I’d imagine you can bring your own if you have it at home).
Next up is Monday night where Jessica (of Paper Trail Diary) and I will be taking a sewing class so we can learn how to use our sewing machines! I purchased one from a Black Friday sale with the hopes that I can finally hem both my pants and our curtains but I’d love to learn how to make stuff as well. So while I did take a costuming course in university, that was 15 years ago and I can’t remember a thing about it. So sewing essentials – here we come!
On top of that, I’ve got a fun dance class or two lined up this month with friends in the coming weeks. I’m so excited to enjoy some new hobbies, find more creative outlets and learn some new skills so be sure to swing by throughout the year to see how my year of creativity is panning out, and to share your own artsy experiences!
