When my friend Flo told me about a dance class that taught the choreography to Justin Bieber’s Sorry video, I was immediately intrigued. Taught by Julie of Mil Pasos, several us headed over to the Dovercourt House last week to learn the dance. I probably shouldn’t have refreshed my memory into what we were getting into the night before by watching the video again and psyching myself out. But there you have it, we were committed.
I had never been to this venue before but it looks like it is home to quite a few performance companies & events for a variety of dance and fitness classes. My friends and I walked in to realize we were a bit under dressed, as some attendees definitely went all out with the theme of the night! The Dovercourt House is a really interesting space, and our 2-hour class was to take place in the basement studio area but my only hang-up about that was that it lacked a mirror. This made seeing Julie a challenge for anyone that wasn’t the few people right in front of her in the middle.
The dance itself has quite a number of steps to learn, and Julie took her time teaching us bit by bit. We’d learn the first 8 bars or so, and then move onto the next. Every so often, she’d put the music on and we’d go from the top to see how far we could get. I knew it would be tough, but boy was it quite the work out!
Curious how we did after two hours? Of course there’s a video. 😉
The most satisfying part of all of this was that we all (basically) got all the steps down by the end of the class. Watching the music video now, it definitely matches up. Definitely a great way to work out and have fun learning something new! Surprisingly my ears weren’t sore and sick of the song after that night, but we were all very tired and achy the next day.
The next class they’re doing? Beyonce’s Single Ladies!
